Claude
Claude is a family of large language models developed by Anthropic. It is designed to be helpful, harmless, and honest, with a strong emphasis on safety and alignment.
Named after Claude Shannon, the models use a technique called Constitutional AI, where model behavior is shaped by a predefined set of ethical principles instead of traditional human feedback. This approach is intended to reduce harmful or biased outputs while preserving model capability.
Claude was first launched in March 2023 and has evolved through several generations. The Claude 3 family, released in 2024, introduced major improvements in reasoning, multimodal processing, and context handling. The latest release is Claude 3.7 Sonnet (March 2025), featuring enhanced performance across both text and image inputs, with long-context memory and low latency.
Claude 3 models are offered in three tiers:
Opus: The most powerful version, optimized for advanced reasoning and complex tasks
Sonnet: Balanced performance and speed, suited for a wide range of professional use cases
Haiku: Lightweight and fast, designed for cost-efficient applications where speed matters
All Claude models are accessible through Anthropic’s API and web interface, and are integrated into platforms like Notion, Slack, and Poe.
